"THE DOCTRINES OF CHRIST"
When it comes to building anything (whether it be a building of some kind, a marriage, a church, a business or whatever), the foundation that is laid is the most critical part. A foundation is the support for the entire structure. When a construction crew begins work on a home, the first step is the excavating (digging) of the holes or trenches for the footings (the lowest part of the foundation). The footings support each wall load. If you have ever had a home built, you know that foundations can take time. When watching the first several steps, it can seem that there is very little progress. There always seems to be plenty of activity, but very little evidence that anything is really happening. That is because the building of the foundation which is going to support a structure is extremely important if it is going to support what is placed on top.
The same principle applies to our spiritual life. We need to place a strong foundation underneath us so that we can stand on solid ground and what is built upon that foundation will stand strong when the winds and storms come through. Remember the parable of "The Wise Man and the Foolish Man?" Jesus was stressing this same principle. With a strong foundation being built and good materials being used (with painstaking effort), the structure that is built will withstand all assaults.
Just as it is important to have good solid footings, the footings in our spiritual life is that solid Rock of the Lord Jesus Christ. He supports the foundation and those principles (which we are going to look at here) that are laid in our lives. The Principles of the Doctrine of Christ are found in Hebrews 6:1,2, and it is our prayer that as you lay these in your life that your foundation will be solid and strong. It may take time, but that is okay. It is important they be laid properly. It is even good to go back and periodically re-examine that foundation to make sure it is still solid.
