 Eternal Life
DO YOU KNOW HIM?

What is eternal life?  How would you answer that question?  Jesus tells us clearly in John 17:3.  that it is by KNOWING God and Jesus, His Son.  The key word is KNOWING.

We can say we know a person  handshake whom we have been introduced to, but our KNOWING is very limited.   We may know their name and some basic information about them and that may be as far as it goes.  However, this is not the KNOWING Jesus talked about when it comes to KNOWING Him.

friendship  When it comes to our spouse, our best friends, the KNOWING then goes a little deeper.  We know more details, their likes and dislikes, their successes and failures.  Why do we know them in a more unlimited way?  It is because we spend more time with them.  We come to trust them and therefore share more of ourselves with them.  We become a little more vulnerable and open.

The KNOWING Jesus spoke of comes from a Greek word (ginoskosin) which is often used to describe the intimacy of a sexual relationship.  Therefore to KNOW God and His Son is to have an intimate personal relationship with Him.  He already knows all the very intimate details about us and He wants us to come to know Him in that way as well.  That relationship is eternal!

To start the process of KNOWING Him begins with the  repentance
acknowledgment of our sins, our need for a Savior, our repentance, and making Jesus Lord of our life.  We turn all control of our lives over to Him.  "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."  (1 John 1:9 NIV)  Repenting means we turn from the way we were going and go God's way instead.

God's WordTo become more intimate with Him is to spend time with Him...talking to Him, listening to Him...searching His Word for what He wants for us.  We value His Word.  His Word becomes a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105).  "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you."  (Psalm 119:11 NIV)

Just as a newborn grows to a toddler, to a youth, and adulthood by eating the right foods, our spiritual growth will continue as we are taking in the healthy nourishment of God's Word and being a "doer" of that Word.

Have you taken those steps to  study  KNOW God and His Son?
Have you stopped somewhere in the process?  We encourage you to pursue the process or "jump back on board."  The invitation comes from the One Who desires to reveal Himself to you.  It is up to us to take that first step and He will meet us and welcome us into the process of getting to KNOW (ginoskosin) Him.  "God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son."  (1 John 5:11)  We encourage you to find a mentoring partner to help and encourage you in the process of KNOWING Him.
